Batman as a Loner

Batman is a clear depiction of a lonely man. Bruce Wayne has no friends, and he is not the best when it comes to the romantic relations (NKY96). However, there are particular reasons that stand behind the fact that Batman prefers to stay alone. First, the tragedy of the childhood made him a loner. Bruce was attached to the parents, and when they were ripped from him, Batman decided that it is better to stay alone not to repeat the tragedy and feel a loss.

As to the romantic relationship and friendship, one can say that Batman lives by the credo, "The less friend you have, the less can be hurt." There are many scenes where Batman was depicted as a loner. However, the most vivid are when Alfred ascends on the elevator to the Batman's secret vault, and a viewer can see Bruce Wayne sitting all alone, stitching his hand (Nolan). The fact that Alfred noted, "Whenever you stitch yourself up, you are making a bloody mess," confirms that Bruce is always alone, and nobody could even stitch him up because doing it on your own is tough (Nolan). The setting of the scene, one man in a huge room, is a clear depiction of loneliness. Additionally, there is no music or some on the background. Silence always was a vivid sign of loneliness.

Moreover, in the other scene, where Batman confronts criminal and his successors, dressed as Batman, tried to help him, Bruce tied them up and left. One of the fake-Batman said, "We were trying to help," and Batman replied, "I do not need help" (Nolan). Those words illustrate and support the idea that Batman prefers to stay alone and perform as a lonely hero.

  1. Ahmand, batman is a clear definition of a lonely man in my eyes and I liked to see that you agreed as well. The intro to this blog is very strong and you put in some key things that we need to know that lead us to knowing why he is a loner boy such as how he lost his parents and that was very hard for him so he does not want to go through that again. Almost everyone can relate to when they get hurt by something rather it be physical or mental they tend to stay away from that thing that hurt them and batman does the same thing and you pointed it out perfectly. I liked the way you backed it up with a lot of in text citations it makes your blog that much stronger. Good jog keep up the good work.

  2. Ahmad, I always enjoy getting to read your blogs because they contain so much insightful information and are organized in a way that I can clearly understand what you are trying to argue. I think that this blog was especially good because you used lots of examples of how Batman is a loner. When you stated that Alfred was referring to his life when Bruce was giving himself stitches I did not think that he was referring to his life and that nobody could help him. I think that Alfred literally meant that he always made a mess when he tried to stitch himself up because of all of the blood that was lost and spilled onto the desk. I liked that you pointed out that he tied up the fake batmen that were trying to help him and he told them that he did not need anyone's help. This to me is a prime example of Batman being a loner because he deliberately says that he wants to be alone. The loss of his parents set him up to be the way that he is. Having your parents killed in front of you would do something to you that would change you and he just obviously does not want to have to ever feel that type of pain again. Good work on your blog Ahmad and keep up the good work!

  3. Ahmad, this is a great work to me. You analyzed about why and how Batman is a loner, and did it very well. I like the moment you chosen from the film, it is really a good example to emphasize lonely if there was only one person sits in a huge room. Also, your second example is good. I believe Batman chose to stay along is because he doesn’t want any hurt added to his friends, Batman’s enemies know they cannot win him, but if they know Batman has friends or families, who could promise that those enemies won’t hurt these friends and families? Very nice done, Ahmad!
