One
of the most important features in the comic work is to deliver information
through images. One of the greatest issues about the world of comics underlined
by McCloud is that the combination of images and words with an aim of conveying
information is “somehow base and simplistic” (141). It goes without saying that
this “self-fulfilling prophecy” (McCloud 141) does not reflect the reality in a
right way. In fact, such serious point about religious attitude towards
abortion has been made in a comic way in the ‘Fornication’. Although a
considerable amount of research has been devoted to this aspect, it would be
thus of interest to investigate it in depth.
First of all, in the ‘Fornication’
such issue as drug prescription could be led to unpredictable consequences. ‘I
am going to refute to fill your prescription’, as a pharmacist said in the
‘Fornication’ by Peter Bagge’s creation (Bagge, pp. 190).
Secondly, it is worthy of notice
that the features of religion and mode of living are closely correlated with
each other and the same it could be written about the correlation between
imagined and real worlds. For instance, another pharmacist mentioned that
religion does not accept abortions as far as it has been written in the Bible (Bagge 191).
Thirdly, in the ‘Fornication’ the author writes in a comic
way about contraceptives. In fact, he uses images which demonstrate how cruel
and fierce these techniques could be (Bagge 192). In brief, the issue of
prohibiting abortions has a lot of concerns in the American society because of
religious prejudices.
In conclusion, in the ‘Fornication’
the authors wanted to deliver acute society problems through . For this reason,
comic images play a crucial role in delivering information about some dispute
aspects of life and how authors could create heroes in the process of creating
literature masterpieces.

Ahmad, I think that we are actually the only two that did this blog! I took a different view on the Fornication and what we were to be analyzing. I liked reading your blog because you wrote about the actual content of what was written and not so much about the elements that Bagge used in order to portray the message. It was interesting to me that a subject like abortion could be put into a comic and that there is still a very strong message in it and that I do not think that the fact that it was a comic lost any of the seriousness of this message. I an pretty sure that your citation for the Fornication is not done correctly, so double check that. Over all I think that you did a good job with this blog and I liked that your view of this blog was almost completely opposite from what I got from it. Again, good work!
ReplyDeleteAhmad, I think you also did a really good job on this blog. Your view is a little then Sai's on fornication but it still works. You used some very good examples and quotes from Bagge and McCloud to explain comics. I have to agree with Sai about being able to put abortion into a comic yet still send a strong message. But Sai also stated, " Comics are very useful texts. A comic can take these serious matter, or just everyday news and put it into a story. Comics should not just be thought of as simple reading or a children's genre because in reality everyone can learn something from a comic." which I agree with so I do agree with your point that abortion can work with a comic. I really liked your conclusion where you said, "comic images play a crucial role in delivering information about some dispute aspects of life" I believe that statement to be true from reading McCloud and from your and Sai's blogs. They have helped me understand the true meaning and uses of comics and how they can be used in different ways. I also, learned a lot from your blogs about comics and the way that they are. From the way they're made and what each detail about the comic works and the reasoning for it. You give very good examples in your blogs of what our Professor asks of us. So good job and keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHello, Ahmad. I am surprised that only you and Sai did yesterday’s blog. I slept from 8 o’clock and woke up at 5am, this was a sad story. I thought it was a difficult topic to explain how the comic works to create meaning, but you did a nice job. I have to say that you wrote something abstract things to a reader like me, who did not do necessary reading of The War on Fornication. I was confused what does “Fornication” means when I first time read it. I may not give you any advices about your argument, but I like the organized way you used for your blog.
ReplyDeleteAhmad, I was not able to do this blog because of lack of time and not getting to do it because of midterms that I have had. But I really enjoyed your blog. You took a different approach than Sai did and I liked the approach you took you focused more on the context rather than the concept behind the context. Like Sai mentioned I really liked the way you mentioned how you can take a message so strong like abortion and use the methods that comics use and still have a strong message get through the audience and your point proven. Great job Ahmad.
ReplyDeleteAhmed, you offer an interesting analysis of the content of the comic, but there is not much about how the comic communicates meaning using the first three chapters of McCloud (like the blog prompt asked). Your citation for the "Fornication" comic is almost perfect. There should be quotation marks around the title of the comic itself. Last, though I appreciate the different color texts and your idea to make it different every post, the red, I think, is too hard to read. Let's avoid that color in the future (note: the color has no baring on your grade, just a suggestion.
